WHERE I BUY FABRIC IN 2025
I live in the country. The nearest town has one stoplight and no retail shops. When I need to color-match fabrics for a project, I have always driven almost an hour to the next large city to search for the perfect fabric. I used to have several options there (Hancock Fabrics, JoAnn Fabrics, and Hobby Lobby), but now only Hobby Lobby remains. It is getting harder and harder to find what you need, especially on a budget!
Where do I shop for fabric now that JoAnn's is closing? The list of options is shrinking, but I do have a few tried and true suppliers that are still in business.
Here are some of my favorite places to buy fabric in 2025:
- Hawthorne Supply I LOVE this shop! I've been ordering from them for about 10 years. The fabric is excellent and their customer service is second to none. They've got this color-matching tool that nobody else has-- it is the BEST for buying something to coordinate with the colors in a print without seeing it with your own eyes. They are very responsive if you need help and their shipping is lightning fast!
- Quilt Expressions Lovely fabric, fast shipping & delivery. This is a new discovery for me, but I was completely happy with my first purchase from them.
- Stash Fabrics Another lovely shop for quilting fabrics. You earn rewards (Stash Cash) for your purchases to be used for future purchases. I've ordered from them many times over the years and have always been pleased with their speedy delivery.
- Missouri Star Quilt Co. Great selection of quality quilting fabrics. This is a large company, so inventory is not always accurate, which can be a bummer (especially when I think I've finally found a fabric I've been searching high and low for on the internet...and then it's actually NOT available...) Shipping takes a bit longer. But I am always happy with the fabric. With each order, you earn Quilter's Cash rewards points towards future purchases.
- Hancock's of Paducah Huge selection of quilting fabrics and notions. This one is also on the list I send to customers who want to choose their own fabrics for a customized apron.
- Fat Quarter Shop Great place to buy quilting fabric. I've bought a lot of fabric from them over the years. Great customer service.
- Fabric Wholesale Direct I've bought fabric for business and personal projects from this website. Sometimes it takes a while to receive the fabric, but I do like the top quality of their fabrics. You earn reward points after each order to receive discounts on future purchases. When you join their referral program, you can share a discount link with friends that will save them money ($10 coupon when they sign up), and you also earn reward points towards future purchases. CLICK HERE to sign up or read more about the program! (That's MY rewards link!)
Sometimes, there is no substitute for selecting fabric in person. Luckily, I also have the option to drive to Amish country to visit several huge quilt shops to get my in-person fabric fix. I'll head up Highway 5 towards Shipshewana and visit Zinck's, Yoder's, & Lolly's Fabrics. It's worth the long drive.
